In addition to being Of Counsel to GEN Law, Jaime founded Cerebral Assets, LLC, an IP-focused consulting firm, after spending 23+ years in law firms and industry as a leading expert on global intellectual property strategy. Cerebral Assets provides bespoke brokerage services and strategic advice to its clients, which vary from early-stage start-ups to Fortune 100 companies.

Jaime has been an intellectual property attorney and professional for over 30 years. Starting his career at the legendary IP firms of Fish & Neave and Kenyon & Kenyon in New York, Jaime learned from the masters of the profession. Jaime has extensive experience from all views of the IP industry—plaintiff, defendant, counsel, management team member, operating company, NPE, industry organizations, patent pools, SEPs, sales, purchases, brokering, advising and more. Mr. Siegel spent more than 15 years at Sony Corporation of America, concluding as Vice President and Senior IP Counsel, as well as its representative to Taiwan. While at Sony, Mr. Siegel played a key role in the development and execution of Sony’s global patent strategy, including launching and building a team of IP professionals in Taiwan. After his career at Sony, Mr. Siegel was the Executive Vice President of Licensing for Acacia Research Group (Nasdaq: ACTG), responsible for the revenue of the public company. In his last year at Acacia, Jaime led a team responsible for generating over $140MM of revenue.

Jaime has successfully negotiated hundreds of patent and technology licenses, as well as leading hundreds of patent litigations around the globe.

Jaime has been engaged in business activities in China for over two decades. His first project in China was being invited to be a key participant in the drafting of the first standards-based licensing policy in China, related to the AVS standard. He has managed patent litigations in China, and currently provides brokerage services to a number of the biggest technology companies in China.

Jaime was a member of the Board of Directors of MPEG LA, the world’s most successful patent pool, for over a decade, and served as the Chairman of the Board for two years. He has taken part in the development of many FRAND licensing strategies for standard-essential patents globally.

Jaime began his professional career as an engineer in the aerospace industry.

For many years, Jaime has sat on the advisory boards of start-ups, providing guidance for their portfolio development and business strategies. He has a strong interest in working with young professionals and students, as evidenced by his creation and stewardship of active internship/externship programs at both Sony and Acacia.

Jaime publishes articles and is regularly invited to speak and comment on issues related to the business and strategies of intellectual property.
