On 28 May 2026, CBLJ announced the winners of its 2026 Law Firm of the Year Awards. GEN Law was recognised in three categories: Intellectual Property (Patent), Intellectual Property (Trade Secret) and Cross-Border Arbitration.
Notably, this is our first time being listed in the Intellectual Property (Trade Secret) category, reflecting our growing strength in trade secret protection.

Intellectual Property (Patent)
Our IP and Patent team advises domestic and international clients on patent prosecution, litigation, portfolio management, licensing, technology transfer and corporate patent strategy. The team regularly handles complex matters involving antitrust investigations and standard-setting procedures.
Representative matters:
Represented Zhuhai CosMX Battery Co., Ltd. in a lithium-ion battery patent infringement case against ALT. The first-instance court had ordered RMB 30 million in damages; on appeal, we secured a complete reversal — no infringement was found, and all claims were dismissed.
Represented Maxscend in an invalidity proceeding against patents held by Japan's Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., securing a key victory for the client.
Represented FMC, a leading global agrochemical company, before the Supreme People's Court, securing a reversal of the lower court's judgment. The ruling clarified the rules for amending Markush claims, confirming that Markush claims for intermediates closely related to the end product may be subject to adaptive amendments — providing important judicial guidance on this issue.
Our patent team has been consistently recognised by Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500 and ALB.
Intellectual Property (Trade Secret)
Our trade secret team helps clients design multi-layered protection strategies, combining criminal, administrative and civil proceedings as appropriate.
Representative matters:
Represented China seed international seed Co., Ltd. in a case involving the misappropriation of core parental crop varieties. We pursued parallel claims for trade secret infringement and plant variety rights infringement, seeking punitive damages exceeding RMB 100 million — a pioneering approach to IP protection in the seed industry.
Represented Interstar, a subsidiary of STANDARD FIBER, in defending against trade secret infringement claims brought by a competitor. Through a systematic defence strategy, we secured a full voluntary withdrawal of the claim.
Our trade secret team has been consistently recognised by Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.
Cross-Border Arbitration
Our dispute resolution team specialises in complex disputes across finance, international trade, construction, cross-border transactions and insolvency. We coordinate litigation, arbitration and administrative proceedings to deliver solutions that balance legal outcomes with commercial objectives.
Representative matters:
Represented a state-owned contractor in an international arbitration and parallel guarantee fraud case involving a photovoltaic power station project spanning four countries, with a dispute value of nearly US$100 million. By coordinating ICC arbitration and domestic litigation, we achieved a comprehensive victory — the guarantee was not called upon and full compensation was obtained under the underlying contract.
Represented a state-owned contractor in obtaining a pre-trial injunction from the Beijing Financial Court within five days regarding an independent guarantee, ultimately facilitating a settlement that achieved the client's commercial objectives.
Recently achieved significant favourable progress for a client in a cross-border investment dispute valued at RMB 3 billion.
Our dispute resolution team has been consistently recognised by Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, LEGALBAND and Benchmark.
Client feedback: "The GEN Law team is enthusiastic, diligent and professional, with a high level of comprehensive capability." Clients have also recommended Partner Melissa Feng for her extensive experience in cross-border dispute resolution and her ability to devise tailored solutions for cross-border matters.
